About Audrey

Audrey Walters is a SAG-AFTRA actor, writer, and producer based in Golden, Colorado. Over almost 15 years on camera, her credits include Euphoria, Better Call Saul, the Netflix original Our Souls at Night, and the western Big Kill.

Menopause After Dark is the first original film she wrote, produced, and starred in — marking her move from waiting for the right role to creating it. Since making it, she has written two more scripts and produced other projects through Quick Wit Studios, the independent production company she co-founded, including serving as producer and first AD on the vertical series Sigil.

Audrey also co-founded Talk to the Camera, an award-winning nationwide program that uses filmmaking to teach children empathy, collaboration, and communication.

A Note from the Writer & Producer

Menopause After Dark came from something deeply personal, but also incredibly universal. After almost 15 years as a SAG-AFTRA actor, I got tired of waiting for someone else to give me permission to do the work I wanted to do. The songs came first, in the middle of the night, when menopause had me wide awake anyway. I sang them to friends and family for months before we ever shot a frame.

What I have experienced, and what I see in so many women around me, is that we are often navigating this phase of life quietly — expected to push through, keep showing up for everyone else, and somehow hold it all together. At the same time, there is so much humor, energy, and life still inside of us. We are not fading. We are evolving.

I wanted to make that internal experience impossible to ignore. Loud, visual, musical, and unapologetic. The 90s hip-hop influence was the key that unlocked the film. Lauryn Hill, Queen Latifah, TLC. Women who took up space on their own terms. That felt exactly right for the women this story represents.

Menopause After Dark is not about fixing anything. It is about owning where we are, finding joy even in the hard moments, and reminding women that they are still powerful, vibrant, and fully alive.

Dark comedy series | Written by and starring Audrey Walters

She can sell anyone's disaster. She just can't sell her own.

Logline

The hook

Joy Rhodes is the woman everyone calls when life falls apart. She's also the last person who'd admit hers is.

Creator statement

Joy Rhodes has built a life finding the good bones in other people's wreckage. She can walk into the worst house in Boulder and see possibility where everyone else sees disaster. But as menopause, mounting debt, and decades of carrying everyone else's dreams catch up with her, Joy is forced to confront the one life she's never learned to rebuild: her own. At its heart, JOY RIDE is about giving yourself permission to stop surviving and start living.

How it connects

Menopause After Dark and JOY RIDE come from the same place. Both center a woman over 50 who is holding everything together while her body and her life refuse to cooperate, and both treat that experience with humor instead of hushed tones. JOY RIDE also draws directly on Audrey's own life as a Colorado real estate agent and mother of three. Menopause After Dark proves the voice on screen; JOY RIDE is where it goes next.
